MAC Brush Cleanser – Review & Photos

What Mac Claims
“This one product will clean, disinfect and condition the brush fibers so that brushes will last longer. It is convenient to use and is specifically designed to extend the life of high quality brushes. Brush Cleanser leaves your brushes smelling fresh and clean, and helps shorten their drying time.”

Taking care of makeup brushes is extremely important for many reasons. Cleaning and disinfecting makeup brushes on a regular basis helps brushes last a lot longer and also prevents your skin from breaking out. There are a ton of brush cleansers on the market but I have been using the MAC brush cleanser for over 5 years and I love how clean it gets my brushes.

This is definitely a product that I have repurchased many many times. I know it is pricey for a brush cleaner but I have spend crazy amounts of money buying MAC brushes so I really want them to last so it’s important to take care of them. It cleans my brushes very well, it takes out about 90% of the product in the brushes. This brush cleanser won’t clean brushes that have oil based products on them such as foundation, cream blushes or cream.gel eyeliner. You would need to use an oil based  remover for those brushes. The one downside to this product is it does not come with a spray nozzle but luckily I did find a nozzle that fits perfectly from a hair product. One bottle of the MAC brush cleanser lasts me a long time because I mix 50% of the cleanser and 50% of water in a small spray bottle so the cleanser does last quite a long time.

The cleanser does an amazing job in spot cleaning. I usually deep clean my brushes with baby shampoo most of the time, but on those lazy days I use the brush cleanser. I use a clean hand towel to clean the brushes. I like using a white towel so I can see how much product is coming off the brushes. The brushes probably take a couple minutes to completely dry. For darker eyeshadows, I do have to spot clean the brushes a couple times for all the product to come off. Overall I would keep repurchasing this brush cleanser because not only does it remove makeup from my brushes but it also disinfects my brushes too. If you have spent a lot of money in investing in good brushes, then this brush cleanser is a good product to buy to protect your brushes.

  • This sounds really good but will it destroy brushes made from real hair?

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • Not at all. Most of my MAC brushes are real hair and Ive had them for more than five years. I would recommend using a conditioner on them once in a awhile though.

  • We were at MAc store with my sister and she was interested in buying but at the end we didn’t. Reading your review seems that it is worth it, especially since it also disinfects .

    • Yes it’s definitely a great option to use on brushes.

  • I so need a cleanser product. My brushes are super cheap, but just from a disinfectant stand point… And the price isn’t bad for a big bottle!

    • That’s true. This huge bottle lasts me more than 12 months.

  • I’ve never tried this product but it looks pretty efficient. When I am not deep cleansing my brushes, I’m using a homemade cleanser that I also spray on my brushes.

  • Darnit! I literally threw this away in the last move because I didn’t think I would ever use it – Will have to re-buy!
