Benefits Of Lemon Essential Oil And My Favorite Ways To Use It

Lemons have been used for their medical properties for centuries and for good reason. Dating back centuries ago Egyptians used to drink lemon juice to clear their bodies of chemicals and poisons. Lemon essential oil has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antioxidant, astringent, antiseptic, antidepressant and anticancer properties. Medical science has also proven that lemon essential oil can boost the immune system, helps with digestion and can remarkably help detoxify and purify the liver. And not to mention the fantastic scent.

I always keep lemon essential oil as part of my family’s medical cabinet. It kills viruses and bacteria and is an all around basic essential oil that has many uses.

Diffusion
I love to diffuse lemon essential oil, it has a wonderful pick me up scent and really energizes me. It can lift moods and fight depression.

Cleaning
I love using this oil to remove kitchen grease and I add it to my home made house hold cleaner.  I hate using chemicals around my house so I use lemon oil to clean everything in my house and it kills germs and leaves a clean scent. Add a few drops of lemon oil to a half-cup of olive oil to make a nice natural furniture polish for wood furniture. Apply a small spot-test first.

Cold Sores/Blisters
Add a drop of lemon essential oil to the affected area 2-3 time a day with a q-tip.

Digestion/Weight Loss
Add 1-2 drop of lemon oil to your water to help with digestion, weight loss  and metabolism.  It’s very refreshing too.

Sore Throat /Tonsillitis
Add 1 drop of lemon oil to sea salt water and gargle. Don’t swallow.

Kidney Stones
I am currently going through this in my life I take 2 drops of lemon oil and organic virgin coconut oil in a capsule twice a day. Please be sure the oils are 100% therapeutic if you do plan on ingesting them.

Heartburn
Apply lemon oil across the arches and pads of the feet and down the throat, sternum and stomach. I always dilute essential oil with a carrier oil before topical application.

Laundry
If you ever leave your wet clothes in the washing machine you probably have noticed a moldy smell not to worry  you can simply add a few drops of lemon essential oils and you won’t get that nasty scent.

Fruit & Vegetable Wash
Add 3-5 drops of lemon essential oil to a sink full of water. Wash your produce to remove the waxy residue as well as sanitize fruit and vegetables.

Asthma
It is believed that lemons are also useful for treating asthma, since inhaling the aroma of lemons can clear the nasal passages and sinuses, promoting good air flow and steady breathing.

Dishwasher Sanitizer
Add 1-2 drops in your garbage disposal. Wait a minute and then turn on warm water to flush out odors. You can also sanitize and freshen up the dishwasher. Just add it to the detergent container and run a load of dishes.

Deodorize Around The House
Put 1-2 drops on a cotton ball and in the fridge, garbage cans, diaper pail and shoe closet.

Nail Fungus
Apply a few drops of lemon oil to the affected nail several times a day.

Quick Hand Sanitizer
If you are in a rush and you need to sanitize your hands drop lemon essential oil all over hands.

Remove Sticky Messes
Got gum in your hair or carpet? Lemon oil easily removes sticky residue.

SAFETYLemon oil is non-toxic, but can cause skin irritation and sensitizing in some individuals. Lemon oil can make your skin more sensitive to the sunlight. So, if you apply lemon oil directly to your skin, take caution and remain out of the sun for approximately 72 hours.

    • I have been using home made cleaners for awhile now and what I love about them is how versatile they are. You don’t need separate ones for windows or kitchens
