Tips & Tricks
Using a brush or fingertip apply a thin layer over entire lid blending up towards brow area. Let dry, then continue with eyeshadow.
If you wear eyeshadows often then the importance of applying an eye primer underneath the eyeshadows is very crucial. The purpose of a primer is to make eyeshadow more vibrant and it makes them last all day long without fading or creasing. I usually use Painterly Paint Pot from MAC as my main primer but I really wanted to try something more affordable and see how it compared to a higher end primer. I purchased the Jordana Eye Primer/base from Beauty Joint for under two dollars and I am really pleased with the results.
This primer comes in a very small pot with a see through twist off lid much like the Jordana Eyeshadow/Brow Powders. The primer has a pink undertone much like Painterly Paint Pot from MAC. I don’t think the color of the primer is big deal since the eyeshdows will cover up the primer anyway. I have a yellow undertone and once I apply eyeshadow over the primer you can’t see the primer.
The consistency of this primer/base is dry. It’s not as creamy as the MAC Paint Pots but once you warm up the primer with your finger it’s becomes easier to work with and blending it out is not an issue. You do need to blend it out pretty quickly because it does dry fast and it dries to a powder finish. I would have to disagree with the claim that this primer illuminates and highlights. It is totally matte and does not add any lightening effect.
What I really love about this primer is how vibrant it makes my eyeshadows. I have dry eyes and this primer doesn’t feel any drier to me then any other primer. It also has never creased on me throughout the day. If you do find when using this primer your shadows crease during the day then you are applying too much. As with any primer you only need a very thin layer, if you apply too much it will have the reverse effect of what you want it to do. If you have oily lids then try applying a primer under this base. Since this is more of a base then a true primer.
