Makeup Geek Pigments Review, Pictures & Swatches

I am really excited to be reviewing 10 Makeup Geek pigments today. Makeup Geek was created by Marlena who has had a YouTube channel for many many years and who happens to be my favorite person to watch on YouTube because she not only creates beautiful looks but she has a way of teaching you how to apply makeup properly.

Packaging
Available in 15 shades, the pigments come in cute boxes. It has the Makeup Geek company logo and beside that there is a quote which states, “As Makeup Geeks, we stay true to who we are. Cosmetics are not used to change ourselves, but to enhance the exquisite and unique people that we are. To be a Makeup Geek means to be a reflection or our inner beauty.”  I think that’s such a unique touch.
On the other side of the box is a clear cut out circle that shows the shades color. It also states the name of the shade and weight. The pigments come in clear transparent jars with a plastic lid you can twist off. I will warn you that there is no sifter for these jars. I would prefer there to be a sifter because since it is a loose shadow it can get quite messy. Besides the lack of a sifter I love the packaging. It’s clear that a lot of thought was put into the design and that definitely doesn’t go unnoticed.

Texture/Pigmentation
The texture for these pigments is so smooth. They are a dream to work with. They literally apply like butter. One thing I dislike about pigments in general is sometimes they can feel a little gritty on the eyes and chunky, but the pigments from Makeup Geek are so finely milled. I can say that about all of the shades I have swatched. All ten shades are so opaque and highly pigmented. You only need a little bit of product to achieve a good color pay off. All the swatches below were used on bare skin and I didn’t use any kind of primer or base.

Since these are loose shadows they do tend to have a little bit of fall out. If you want to avoid as much fall out as possible apply the pigment on a flat shader brush and lightly tap off the excess. You can also apply these wet by using a damp brush which will prevent fall out and will apply with a metallic finish on the eyes.  I love working with pigments because they are so versatile. You can use them on your eyes, lips, hair, body and countless other ways.

Makeup Geek Pigment Review

Makeup Geek Pigmennt Utopia

Utopia “Mixture of deep brown and antique gold shimmer duochrome glitter.”

Utopia is one of the prettiest shades, it is an antique gold and looks quite chunky in the jar but since it is so finely milled it applies extremely smoothly. Utopia would be perfect to wear for a holiday party.

Insomnia “A dark chocolate brown duochrome with blue/teal reflects.”

Insomnia is a gorgeous teal/green and brown duochrome. It is very comparable to Mac’s Blue Brown pigment and Club eyeshadow from Mac. It has a very smooth finish and as with all the pigments from Makeup Geek Insomnia is very finely milled making applying this shade very easy. This shade is so versatile. If you apply it over a black base it applies more on the green side. I love playing around with this color. I also love applying it wet to achieve an intense look on my lid.

Vegas Lights “Copper Glitter”

Vegas Lights is a beautiful glittery copper shade that is the perfect color for the Fall season. The glitter is very fine and once applied blends together with the color effortlessly. This color would look beautiful on all skin tones but if you have blue eyes this color was made for you. Vegas Lights brings out blue eyes beautifully.

Liquid Gold “True Metallic Gold”

Liquid Gold is perfectly named. It really applies like liquid gold. This is one of those shades you really need to see in person to really appreciate how gorgeous it is. It is very opaque in color and applies so smoothly and it very easy to blend out and work with. I have been wearing this on my lid a lot lately.

Prince Charming “Metallic Cool Silver”

Prince Charming is a true silver.  It is also very opaque and you only need a little bit to achieve a nice color pay off. This is a perfect color to create a smokey look. It would also be a great shade to use for a glamorous night out.

Enchanted “Light Plum Shimmer”

Enchanted is a medium plum color that is neutral enough to wear in the daytime. If you want a more intense color pay off you can apply this color over a black base to bring out the shimmer.

Kryptonite “Metallic Moss Green”

Kryptonite is a mossy green with a gold iridescence. It’s simply beautiful.I love using this shade on my lid to create a green smokey eye. Very smooth in texture and long lasting.

Blitz “A Medium Brown with Red Undertones and Slight Shimmer”

Blitz is brown in color with red and coppery undertones. It’s very smooth and highly pigmented. I love using this color fora bronze smokey eye.

Paparazzi “Glittery smokey grey”

Paparazzi is a dark charcoal color with beautiful multi colored glitter. It’s the perfect shade to use for a night out or a holiday party. This shade does have a bit more fall out compared to the other shades so I like to apply this pigment wet.

Bewitched “Light Amethyst Purple with a Slight Shimmer”

Bewitched is a cool plum with violet shimmer. This is a really great shade to wear if you are not comfortable wearing bright colors because it does have some color but it’s very muted. It’s a very unique shade that I haven’t seen anywhere else.

I am so impressed with Makeup Geek’s pigments and how well they apply and the overall quality of them. I really appreciate when makeup brands keep the customer in mind and create products that are very user friendly. It’s obvious that Marlena from Makeup Geek put a lot of thought in creating her products and paid attention to a lot of details, which doesn’t go unnoticed. I love pigments in general but don’t reach for them as often as I do pressed eyeshadows but these pigments are an exception. I am in love with the colors so I have been using them on a daily basis. I really love that there is a variety of both neutral shades and darker shades for smokey eyes.
